On the other side is a short description/background of the symbol. St. Brigid’s Cross is an iconic Irish symbol associated with St. Brigid’s Day (Feb. 1st.) Born in 450 AD she is the patroness saint (or 'mother saint') of Ireland. Traditionally made from reeds, rushes, or straw, it is thought to keep evil, fire and hunger from the homes in which it is displayed.
