The University was founded in 1845 as "Queen's College Galway", and was more recently known as "University College Galway" (UCG) (Irish: Coláiste na hOllscoile, Gaillimh or COG). Located close to the city centre, it stretches along the River Corrib. The oldest part of the University, the Quadrangle with its Aula Maxima was designed by John Benjamin Keane; it is a replica of Christ Church, one of the colleges at the University of Oxford. The stone from which it is built was supplied locally. Each Ceramic Print is individually produced ensuring attention to detail and uniqueness - no two are exactly the same. The images are printed and pressed one at a time onto our specially coated ceramic art tile with a printed faux crackle glaze effect. The effect gives a lovely warmth and unique character to the piece. Full Colour Option The image is reproduced in full colour - as our original pen and wash painting. Blueware / Delftware Colour Option The image is reproduced as a Blueware (Delftware) tile. This means all the colours are reproduced with a cobalt blue wash. These distinctive tiles in their characteristic blue and white give an added warmth to the product. a real feeling of history and familiarity. Greenware Colour Option Inspired by the 16th Century Delft tiles, our Greenware colour option reproduces the images with an traditional Irish Emerald Green wash. These unique pieces are distinctively Irish and are full of character and interest.
